Thank you for your interest in MDC Iowa's INNOV8 Lab, a makerspace provided as a free community service in Iowa City.

What is a makerspace?

A makerspace is a collaborative work space for making, learning, exploring, and sharing that uses high-tech to no-tech tools. These spaces are open to kids, adults, and entrepreneurs and have a variety of maker equipment including 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC machines, soldering irons, and even sewing machines.

Things to know about MDC Iowa and the INNOV8 Lab
As a nonprofit organization, we do not generate any revenue from our programs, and all services are free to the community. We are still working on finding local donors and partners to help cover the cost of a paid position that will manage the makerspace. Until we can find grants and donations for this operating expense, we will be using a reservation system to request a date and time to access specific equipment. No unattended access to the makerspace is provided at this time.

These reservations are not guaranteed but we will do everything we can to ensure that a volunteer or staff member from our learning center will be at the INNOV8 Lab at that time. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us directly.
